Together, we can help end domestic violence against women and children in Australia.
At Western Obstetrics, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to live a happy, healthy, and safe life. Unfortunately, the reality is different for far too many people. Did you know that 1 in 7 Australians have experienced childhood abuse? And in Australia, one woman is killed every four days. These are heartbreaking statistics, but together, we can help change them.
This October, we’re proud to be teaming up with Polished Nails and to support The Polished Man movement, a cause that is close to all of our hearts, especially Dr. Stuart Prosser, who will be polishing one of his nails blue for the month. This simple yet powerful act is a way to raise awareness about violence against women and children and inspire conversations that lead to positive change.
The Polished Man campaign encourages everyone—men and women alike—to paint one nail blue for the month of October. That painted nail becomes a conversation starter, raising awareness and funds to help end violence against women and children. Through education, housing support, and financial empowerment programs funded by donations, Polished Man is making a difference in communities affected by this issue.
- Paint a Nail: Join us by painting one nail blue this October. Whether you’re a man or a woman, you can stand in solidarity with those impacted by violence.
- Donate: Every donation makes a difference. Western Obstetrics has already donated, but we encourage our patients, staff, and community to contribute. Your donation helps fund initiatives that support victims and tackle the root causes of violence.
- Keep the Conversation Going: Violence thrives in silence. By painting a nail, you’re sparking conversations that matter. Together, we can educate and inspire change.
The Polished Man movement is making a real impact by transitioning to a grants program that supports a range of initiatives. These include education, housing, financial empowerment, and more—all aimed at reducing violence against women and children. Polished Man ensures that every dollar is used transparently, with grant recipients being held accountable for how they use the funds and the positive outcomes they achieve. You’ll be able to see exactly how your support is making a difference.
We’re excited to partner with Polished Nails in Balcatta, who are also supporting this important cause. You can visit their Polished Man page here to see how they’re getting involved and even book an appointment to get your nails polished for the cause.
This movement is especially meaningful to Dr. Stuart Prosser, who will be polishing his nails for the entire month of October. It’s a simple but powerful gesture that highlights the role we can all play in ending violence. Watch this space for photos and updates as we continue to raise awareness.
We understand that conversations around violence can be difficult. At Western Obstetrics, we’re here for you. Throughout October, we’ll be sharing resources and information to help those who may need support. If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We have a team of compassionate professionals ready to listen and offer guidance.
Children who grow up in homes where domestic violence occurs face challenges that can deeply impact their lives. Whether they witness abuse or are directly affected, the consequences can be long-lasting. At Western Obstetrics, we’re supporting the Polished Man campaign to raise awareness of this issue and highlight how we can all play a role in protecting vulnerable children.
How Domestic Violence Affects Children
When children are exposed to violence, the environment of fear and instability affects their emotional and mental health. They may experience:
- Anxiety and fear: Constant tension in their home environment can leave children feeling anxious and afraid, unsure of when the next violent episode may occur.
- Difficulty with trust and relationships: Growing up in a violent home can make it harder for children to form healthy relationships. They may struggle with trust and develop unhealthy relationship patterns in their adult lives.
- Behavioural challenges: Children may act out, show aggression, or withdraw socially as they try to cope with the confusion and stress they experience at home.
- Long-term mental health effects: Exposure to violence can contribute to depression, PTSD, and other mental health issues that persist into adulthood.
Sadly, children are often the silent victims of domestic violence, as they may not have the words or understanding to express what they are experiencing. This is why awareness is crucial.
How We Can Help
The Polished Man campaign brings attention to the issue of violence against children, and at Western Obstetrics, we are committed to raising awareness about the effects of domestic violence on young lives. By understanding the signs and offering support, we can help children heal and grow into resilient, healthy adults.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, support is available through services like 1800RESPECT. These resources can provide guidance, counselling, and practical help for families in need.
Together, we can make a difference. By spreading awareness and taking action, we can create safer environments where children can thrive, free from the fear of violence.
Let’s join hands to protect the next generation—because every child deserves to feel safe and loved. 💙
Together, we can stand up for the most vulnerable members of our community. Whether you paint a nail, donate, or simply start a conversation, your actions matter.
